These bulbs are traditionally for the marine market. The Larger size (42mm) is typically found in some navigation lights (usually Perko). When using this bulb for a nav light, it is better to select the 3200K as it’s soft yellow light is more compatible with the red and green lenses. The 5500K has a tendency to wash out the colored lenses.
The RED bulb is used in chartrooms and for night vision on the bridge. The BLUE bulb is normally used in the dual bulb fixtures in salons and lounges. The bulb will fit a wide range of festoon sockets. Measure your socket before purchasing to ensure proper fit. The bulb measures 42mm tip to tip but has a 5mm tolerance on each end.
These are also used in refrigerators and closets in your RV.
